Special: Winchester, Death Of Superman and The Equalizer 2 Mini-Reviews

Winchester:

Synopsis: Inspired by true events. On an isolated stretch of land 50 miles outside of San Francisco sits the most haunted house in the world. Built by Sarah Winchester, (Academy Award (R)-winner Helen Mirren) heiress to the Winchester fortune, it is a house that knows no end. Constructed in an incessant twenty-four hour a day, seven day a week mania for decades, it stands seven stories tall and contains hundreds of rooms. To the outsider it looks like a monstrous monument to a disturbed woman's madness. But Sarah is not building for herself, for her niece (Sarah Snook) or for the troubled Doctor Eric Price (Jason Clarke) whom she has summoned to the house. She is building a prison, an asylum for hundreds of vengeful ghosts, and the most terrifying among them have a score to settle with the Winchesters...

My thoughts: ...I mean it was fine I guess? Pretty predictable and there were no real memorable moments but I didn't hate it. So yeah. That about sums it up.

Final verdict: 3 dead prostitutes out of 5.

The Death Of Superman:

Synopsis: Superman and the rest of the Justice League unite to battle a hulking monster named Doomsday -- but it's ultimately up to the Man of Steel to save the day as the two titans square off in the heart of Metropolis.

My thoughts: I just realized I usually start the bad ones with "I Mean" so clearly without that you know I rather liked this one, however this is being praised as the Best DC film (animated or otherwise) in the last 5 years and that's just silly. I might be in the minority here but I liked the original DC Animated Universe movie Doomsday better. That being said this is still probably top 3 as far as Superman movies go, probably even top 3 for the Justice League movies that follow the current continuity (sorry Justice League: War, you've been cut).

Final verdict: 4 monstrosities from space out of 5.

The Equalizer 2:

Synopsis: Denzel Washington returns to one of his signature roles in the first sequel of his career. Robert McCall serves an unflinching justice for the exploited and oppressed - but how far will he go when that is someone he loves?

My thoughts: What happens when you reunite all the players from the best Vigilante movie of recent memory and give it a sequel? Well same as with most sequels, a product that is lackluster to it's original. Sure, Denzel is still a badass but this movie doesn't serve to elevate the franchise any and I'm left hoping we don't get an Equalizer 3, something I would've never thought years ago after watching the original. Still good enough but certainly nothing to be excited over, it can definitely wait for a home video release.

Final verdict: 4 vigilante thrillers out of 5.
